Palau is a lively resort in the north of Sardinia in a picturesque landscape of rugged coastline, coves and crags of peculiar shapes. It serves as a starting point for trips to the La Maddalena archipelago and as a destination for a relaxing beach holiday with ideal conditions for snorkelling, diving or even golfing.

Beaches and swimming

Right in Palau, on the western edge of the town, is the pretty La Sciumara beach, which is covered in coarser golden sand and surrounded by a peaceful rural setting. Here you can rent sun loungers and umbrellas, pedal boats or kayaks and buy snacks from the bar.

Many other small beaches can be found all along the coast, especially west of Palau, but most can only be reached by car.

There are beautiful beaches on the La Maddalena archipelago, which is reached by regular ferries from Palau.

Accommodation in Palau is usually in smaller hotels, resorts or apartments. Prices in high season range between 100 eur and 200 eur per night for two, dropping only slightly in low season.

How to get there

Palau is the hub for travel to the La Maddalena archipelago, served by Delcomar's public ferries, which run every half hour during the day and about once an hour throughout the night(timetable). The cruise from Palau to La Maddalena takes 20 minutes.
